MATH PLACEMENT INFORMATION FOR INCOMING 9TH GRADERS (2014/2015)

If you have attended a scheduling session for your incoming 9th grader, you received a pink form regarding the process for math placement.  That flyer has been uploaded into the Documents and Resources tab of this site.

COMPUTER/TECHNOLOGY COURSE REQUIREMENT FOR NON-JCPS STUDENTS

If your child currently attends a JCPS middle school, they have taken the 21st Century Skills test (technology).  Depending on their score, they may be exempt from taking Computer Applications in high school.  If you currently attend a non-JCPS middle school and would like to have your student take that test, you must call 485-3010 and schedule a time to take it on one of the following dates:  June 20th, June 26th, or July 11th.  These will be the only opportunities to take the test.  Students who have not taken the test or who did not pass it must take a Computer Applications course in high school.

SCHEDULING FOR INCOMING 9TH GRADERS (2014/2015):

Scheduling sessions have been set up and are as follows.  This is for incoming 9th graders who live in Ballard’s resides area or who were accepted into one of our career theme programs:

Students with last name: A – D                  Tuesday April 15th

Students with last name: E – J                  Thursday, April 17th

Students with last name: K – R                  Tuesday, April 22nd

Students with last name: S – Z                  Thursday, April 24th

Each session will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. in the Ballard High School cafeteria and will last approximately one hour.  We will be walking you through the scheduling process and you will be asked to fill out a course request sheet.

Please bring the following to your session:

  • A parent or guardian (course requests must be signed by a parent/guardian)
  • A completed enrollment form (included in this packet)
  • A COPY of a current proof of address. This can be your most recent LG&E bill, water bill, lease, House Contract, paycheck or paycheck stub, SSI or other government check.   Proof of residence must be in the parent/guardian’s name and match the enrolling address.
  • Students who are not currently attending JCPS middle schools will also need to bring a COPY of student’s birth certificate, social security card, and current immunization record.

Due to the large number of attendees, we will not be able to make copies at the scheduling sessions.  Please bring copies, not originals.

* If you are unable to attend your scheduling session, you may send the above information (along with a COMPLETED COURSE REQUEST FORM) to Ballard High School (Attention Freshman Counselor).  Course request forms, along with course descriptions can be found  under the documents and resources tab.  Please send this information in to us NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, APRIL 25TH.

Call 485-7618 if you have questions

3/12/14 *UPDATE*:  Those who applied to Ballard for 2014/2015:

Students who applied first choice to Ballard on one of the career theme programs (Communciations, Digital/Print Media, Visual/Performing Arts) should have received notification if they were accepted into the program or not.

If you listed one of the career theme programs as your 2nd choice, we are starting to see those in the system now.  If we are able to get to you, we will send you a request for additional information.

If you applied for Open Enrollment(either first or second choice), you will receive a rejection letter.  Due to our projected enrollment, we are not accepting students on Open Enrollment.  You can still apply for a student transfer in May.  That process is through the main JCPS website www.jcpsky.net under the parents tab.  The transfer application typically begins the week after Derby.

Progress Reports for the 2nd 6 week grading period were sent home with students last Friday, 11/22/13.  Please encourage your child to finish strong.  Contact teachers if you have questions or concerns.

ILP’sIt is a graduation requirement that students complete/update their ILP (Individual Learning Plan) each year.  Students are beginning to go to the computer lab with their classes to work on the ILP, but it is good if the student can work on it at home as well.  Parents, we encourage you to look at the ILP with your student.  If your student doesn’t know their username or password, they can come to the South Office and request that information (please have them try to log in to JCPSOnline first using their normal username and password.  They can access CareerCruising directly through JCPSOnline).  ILP’s must get to 100% complete each school year.
