Ballard High School Enrollment Frequently Asked Questions

For full details about the application process, please refer to the Choices booklet you received at the Showcase of Schools or online at www.jcpsky.net .

Ballard High School is my home school, what do I need to do to enroll?

If Ballard is the school that serves your address, you do not need to apply.  If you are currently attending a JCPS middle school, you will automatically be projected to us based on your address.  You will need to attend an enrollment/scheduling session in the Spring.  Watch www.ballardhs.com for session dates or call us at 485-7618.   If you are not currently in JCPS for middle school, you will need to register with the district so that you show up on our list of projected students.  You can do this at www.jcpsky.net.

Ballard is my home school and I want to be in one of the career theme programs.  Do I need to apply?  No, if Ballard is the school that serves your address, you do not need to apply.  You will have the opportunity to request courses in any of our programs when you attend a scheduling session in the Spring.

Ballard High School is not my home school, how do I apply?

If Ballard is NOT the school that serves your address, determine which of the following applies to you (If you are currently not a JCPS student, you must register with the district before you can apply to a school.  This can be done at www.jcpsky.net

  • If your address is in Ballard’s network (Atherton, Shawnee, Eastern, Waggener), you can apply online to one of our career theme programs during the enrollment/application period.  You apply through www.jcpsky.net.  Our three programs are Communications (105TEA), Digital/Print Media (105TEB), Visual and Performing Arts (105TEC), or Open Enrollment (105OE).  You may also apply for a Student Transfer when that process opens up in May.  District transportation is not provided for students accepted on Open Enrollment (105OE) or Student Transfers.  Space is limited in all programs and applying does not guarantee admission.  Once we receive notification from the district that you have applied, you will get a request for additional information in the mail at the address on your application (Official MS transcript, attendance, essay and survey.  To be considered, students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, 95% attendance, no Suspensions, and complete the essay prompt that will be mailed to you).
  • If your address is NOT in Ballard’s network, your only option during the application period is Open Enrollment (105OE). You may also apply for a Student Transfer when that process opens up in May.  District transportation is not provided for students accepted on Open Enrollment or Student Transfers.

Ballard is my home school but I am applying to a different school.  Do I need to list Ballard as my second choice if I do not get into the first choice school?

No, if you are rejected from your first choice school, you will automatically be projected to your home school if you do not list a different school as your second choice.  If you list another school as second choice, your application will go to that school for consideration.

Ballard is NOT my home school and I am applying to a different school as my first choice.  If I list Ballard as my second choice, can I still get in?

Due to our size and the large number of first choice applicants, it is very likely that our programs will be full before we get to all of the first choice applicants.
